Hypothyroidism during pregnancy is very common

Posted by Dr. James Liu on

A new medical diagnostic study reported online in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism that Pregnancy hypothyroidism occurs in 15% of all pregnant women from age 18 to 40 years of age. The study tested a large pregnant woman population: 117,892 women from the 18 to 40 years of age.Spirited Away film trailer

Asian women (19.3%) were almost three times more likely to test positive for gestational hypothyroidism than African-American women (6.7%), and slightly more likely than Caucasian (16.4%) and Hispanic women (15.2%). Positivity rates statistically differed significantly across ethnicities.

Properly diagnosis is the first step towards a corrective treatment. The accurate treatment will improve the health of both the mother-to-be and the baby.
