Why Dr Natural Healing®
Gummy Bears (Young Children’s Multivitamins)?

The children have the unique needs during the rapid growth period. The key nutrients should be provided to children at the appropriate supplement level. Based on the national standard for young children (4 -8 years) for good nutrition, the 10 vitamins are included in this bear-shaped gummy since they are particularly needed for supporting the rapid growth of the body. Both good flavor and good nutrition are important for the special consumers – young kids.

Parents generally can provide balanced diets with a variety of tastes, colors, and textures, to have plenty of vitamins. For some children, however, supplementation may be important. Your child may need some vitamin and/or mineral supplement if your family’s dietary practices limit certain food groups availability to your child. For example, if your household is strictly vegetarian, with no eggs or dairy products (which is not a diet recommended for children), your child may need supplements of vitamins B12 and D as well as riboflavin and calcium. Rickets, for example, is a disease in which the bones soften, associated with inadequate vitamin D intake and decreased exposure to sunlight; although uncommon in the United States, it continues to be reported especially in children with darker-pigmented skin. Consult your pediatrician about which supplements are needed and the amounts.

Experts stress that a child’s primary nutrition should come from a balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, but in some cases your doctor might recommend adding supplemental nutrients.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) warned adults not to give children sport drinks as energy drinks should not be consumed by children or adolescents. And because nutrition bars, even “kid-friendly” ones, tend to be highly fortified, it is possible for a child who eats them regularly to get too much vitamin A, for example, or too much vitamin B6. Nutrition bars cannot replace real food, including fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, which are vital to a child’s health and development.

Nutritional Content and Ingredients

Vitamin D is important for your child. In 2008 the AAP doubled the amount of vitamin D recommendation for infants, children, and adolescents to 400 international units (IU). The Institute of Medicine recommends 600 IU daily for children ages 1 and up. Most infants will need a vitamin D supplement, but breast-fed babies require it for a longer period of time. And deficiency can happen at any age, so ask your child’s doctor what’s best.

Omega-3 fatty acids are not just for grown-ups. Your child’s brain loves these fatty acids, which help keep synapses firing and cell membranes fluid. So feed your child low-mercury fish regularly and ask your pediatrician whether a supplement makes sense.

Iron Deficiency does occur among some young children and can lead to anemia (a condition that limits the ability of the blood to carry oxygen). In some case the problem is dietary. Toddlers need to receive at least 15 milligrams of iron a day in their food, but many fail to do so. Drinking large quantities of milk may lead to iron deficiency anemia, as the child will be less interested in other foods, some of which are potential sources of iron.  Supplement the right amount of iron is also important.
